Health Department offers youth heart screening
[March 29, 2025]
It is estimated that 1 in 300 youths have a heart condition that
could lead to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). SCA can occur without warning
as 80% of individuals who suffer from Sudden Cardiac Arrest suffer no
symptoms prior to an SCA event.
The Logan County Department of Public Health (LCDPH) is partnering with
Who We Play For, an organization based in Florida, to provide lifesaving
screenings for young people. The screening works to identify heart
abnormalities in seemingly healthy kids who could be at risk for Sudden
Cardiac Arrest (SCA). LCDPH urges you to please consider taking
advantage of this optional ECG screening.
On Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 8:00 AM-12:00 PM, LCDPH is offering ECG
screenings of the heart for just $20. Youth ages 10-19 are eligible for
the screening. To sign up please visit
https://www.whoweplayfor.org/illinois-logan and click on Logan
County Community Event. You do not need to be a resident of Logan County
to attend this event.
NOTE: If your child attends any of the participating schools listed on
the website, there is no cost to receive the ECG screening if they are
registered with their school in advance.
