Lincoln defeats Tri-City/Sangamon Valley/Mount Pulaski 7-5

[April 25, 2025] The Lincoln Railers held off a late rally by the TCSVMP Tornadoes on Thursday afternoon and came away with a 7-5 road win.
 
Grey Gilbert was eager to jump on the first pitch for a double to start the game for Lincoln. She took third on the sacrifice bunt by Morgan Sheley and scored on a single by Regan Kutz. Kutz scored the second run of the game to give Lincoln a 2-0 lead.  

 

The Railers increased the lead to 3-0 in the third inning on an RBI bunt single by Kelsey Marten.

Lincoln plated another run in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Kutz tripled, scoring Gilbert to make the score 4-0. Gilbert had reached base on a hit by pitch.

The Tornadoes got a two-run double from Audrey Cooper in the bottom of the fifth inning to get on the board. Cooper scored on a single to cut the Lincoln lead to 4-3.

Lincoln tallied three runs in the top of the sixth inning. Emma Hutchinson had an RBI single and Addy Mahler and Grey Gilbert each knocked in a run on the fielder’s choice.

The Tornadoes were a threat in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cooper hit another double and after two singles and an error, the Lincoln lead dwindled to 7-5. Regan Kutz was able to retire the final two batters on a fly out and a ground out.

Madisen Wurth got the win for the Railers. Wurth worked five innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. She struck out four batters.

Regan Kutz pitched two innings in relief. Kutz gave up four hits and one earned run. She struck out three batters. Lincoln did not issue a single walk.

Lily Woodworth suffered the loss for TCSVMP. Woodworth allowed eight hits and seven runs over seven innings. Only five runs were earned. She walked two and struck out eight.

Grey Gilbert led Lincoln’s offense by going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Regan Kutz and Kelsey Marten also had two hits apiece.

Morgan Sheley and Emma Hutchison each had one hit.

Audrey Cooper led the Tornadoes at the plate. Cooper was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Savannah Sladek was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored for TCSVMP.

Lincoln improved their record to 8-9 on the season.

TCSVMP falls to 15-3 on the season.
