Full time Firefighter/EMT


The City of Lincoln is establishing an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/EMT. At time of testing, we have at least two vacancies. This list will be effective for two years once established. Candidates must fill out an application with both national testing network and the City of Lincoln. All applications and national testing network testing must be completed by July 31, 2025.

Salary Information: $45,090.48 starting salary ($74,634.12 after the second year). Current max rate for the rank of firefighter is $86,418.48. All salaries effective May 1, 2025.

Department Information: The Lincoln Fire Department is a full-time professional fire department with a staff of 22. We serve the historic City of Lincoln, IL located in central Illinois and have done so with pride since 1886. The Lincoln Fire Department provides many services to the citizens of Lincoln including: firefighting, code inspection, fire investigation, non-transport EMT-B service, vehicle rescue, tech rescue, water rescue, and haz-mat. Lincoln Fire Department responds to over 3000 calls for service annually. Lincoln Fire Department is comprised of 3 shifts that rotate 24 hours on / 48 hours off. Each shift is comprised of (1) Assistant Chief, (1) Captain, (1) Lieutenant, (1) fire inspector, (3) firefighters.

Area Information: Lincoln is in Logan County in Central Illinois. The City of Lincoln is a bedroom community with moderate expansion to the City’s west side. New Hires are required to reside within Logan County, IL within 1 year of employment.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Age: Candidates must be at least 21 years of age; and under 35 years of age. Special consideration for those with prior employment at a full-time fire department.

Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes

Vision: Corrected is fine.

Academy Certification: Points given for Illinois Fire Service Institute, Firefighter Basic Certification (academy).

Necessary Certifications:

• EMT-B is required within first year; points given if you are currently licensed.

• All candidates will complete IFSI academy within first year, unless they have recently graduated from IFSI academy.
Hiring Process:

1. Written test completed through NTN, completed by August 1, 2025. Testing may be done before or after orientation. www.nationaltestingnetwork.com

2. Multiple orientation dates of: May 5, 2025 at 5:00pm, June 7, 2025 at 1:00pm, July 12th at 1:00pm and 6:00pm. Applicants must attend at least one orientation. Orientations will be at the Lincoln Police Department, 710 5th street, Lincoln IL.

3. Oral interviews will be scheduled by the police and fire commission after July 31, 2025. Those who pass the written exam will be contacted for an interview.

4. CPAT card must be current at the time job is offered.

5. Psychological exam may be required upon job offer.

6. Background check/fingerprinting may be required upon job offer.

7. Physical exam and drug screening may be required upon job offer.
